Club Endorsement

A letter from a member now in NZ
 

Dear Deborah,
 

 My family and I have emigrated to New Zealand, and as such we will not be renewing our membership.

My 8 year old daughter Emma, who learnt to ski at the club is now doing junior race series at Snow Planet Auckland.  They have been very complimentary about her technique (honed on plastic ! - a surface they have only heard of or read about and does not exist in NZ !) 
 

Please pass on my sincere and heartfelt thanks to Ray - who patiently and skilfully started Emma off; and also to the head of Wannabes (a copper) whose name escapes me - who together with is team were also excellent and patient.
 

 I'm racing masters once a week, and my plastic-specific 150cm skis cause much amusement.  However no-one can turn short radius like me.
 

 Finally, a story.  On our way down here (we spent a month of the kids summer holidays travelling and visiting friends in Asia) we stopped at a Beach Hotel in Malaysia.  One day it was very wet so I went to the Gym.  There was a 14 year old boy doing the spin class with his mum. His mum described him (the son) as an Athlete - which I thought was kind of odd for a 14 year old kid.  Anyway - turns out he was the No.1 or No. 2 kid in the UK for ski racing and he spent 9 months of the year in the alps skiing at some special camp / school run by the Brits.  I'm sure you will know what this is.
 

 Anyway - the point of the story is that we got talking about the Norfolk Ski Club and he told me (he was from Essex) that Norwich was the club that everyone feared the most as its training program was so good; and that they put on exceptionally well run races.  14 year olds generally don't have an axe to grind and tell the unexpurgated truth.  His view was that Norfolk Ski Club was world class - and I have to agree.

 So, thank you to all concerned - and keep up the good work.
 

 Finally, if any members are brave enough or adventurous enough to come 179.3 degrees East and South a bit, and fancy skiing please feel free to put them in touch with me as we as amassing a good size databank on the ski fields here.
