Ladies Club

The Ladies Club is a supervised weekly session led by a small group of instructors.  The Club meets every Tuesday between 6:30 and 8pm and is for all standards, from recent beginner through to advanced skier.

The aim of the session is to encourage women to improve their ski skills by regular training within a friendly and non-competitive environment.  Skiers are divided into skill levels so as to train alongside ladies of similar abilities.  The sessions, although structured, are not as linear as formal lessons and are very much planned within a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

If you would like to be involved with the Ladies Club, then all you need to do is join as a member and come along on a Tuesday evening.

Ladies Club was formed in the mid '90s to provide a special session for women to train in.  The original idea was to take away the competetive aspect that came with skiing alongside children or partners and instead to introduce basic confidence-building exercises to become a platform for developing technique.

The Club has grown considerably since those early days and we now regularly have 50 or so members training within six ability groups.  Each of the groups trains with their own instructor to a six month expansive programme, so for example during this next month Group 1 (post-beginners) will be working on developing parallels whereas Group 6 (advanced) will be working on carving.

Alison Lindsey, one of our current Ladies Club instructors, writes,

"Just under 5 years ago, I took my first steps onto the slopes of the Club.  After taking beginner lessons, I took advantage of the Sunday evening supervised and then joined Ladies Club, really in a bid to 'learn more stuff' and have some fun.

I started in the snowplough beginners and progression through the groups was achievable.  The groups were small enough to be noticed as an individual, but had the enjoyment of working within a team.

The variety of the sessions kept me interested and the achievement of progressing through the groups was so rewarding, I just wanted to achieve more! And so, I was soon riding the terrain with the top group and it was then that I was encouraged to train as an Instructor.  Ladies Club is now one of my favourite sessions to teach as the groups are such fun to be with."

The social side of the Club is fairly vibrant as well, with many of the ladies enjoying the "apres" in the bar afterwards!  But probably what attracts most to Ladies Club is that we have a clear path of attainable progression within a fun environment.

For those who haven't quite got the nerve to join in with a large group just yet, we hold a "5:30 session" just before Ladies Club for anyone who has just been signed off or perhaps is returning to skiing after an injury in order to give them the confidence to improve further.  We can then hopefully encourage you to take the plunge into Ladies Club!
